Treasury Thursday

2 / 28 / 132 / 28 / 13

I’ve got a few days off work next week. I’m looking forward to spending some time in my new house, tidying and straightening things out to get them a bit more how I like them. Everything is still a bit higgledy-piggledy from moving in then having christmas. It will be a real spring clean. I might even put on a pinny.  This one would be perfect.

It will be great to have everything organised, maybe I’ll invest in something lovely to set it all off:

A little more Lotta…

2 / 28 / 13

Just a little update on what I’ve done so far with my lovely Lotta Jansdotter fabrics. I’ve made this super chunky quilt top, for my family this time, I just need to buy batting then I can start on the old quilting.  It’s my little boy’s birthday party this weekend so we’ll be quite busy but I’m sure I can fit in a bit of “essential” shopping!

I’m not sure what I will bind it with, a turquoise maybe?  All suggestions gratefully received!

Lovely Lotta

2 / 21 / 132 / 21 / 13

Some lovely Lotta Jansdotter fabrics were delivered to me on Monday.

20130221-164931.jpgI just love the colours, there’s also some rusty orange and yellow ochre featured in the collection but the turquoise is my fave. The designs are so clean and simple too. My favourite is the irregularly spaced dotty one, tav. I love polka dots anyway but the spacing on these gives them a little something extra. You can see all the designs here.

I’m going to attempt something like this beauty. It’s a great way to showcase the designs and doesn’t involve too much cutting. Plus it will look great with the curtains I’ve made for my lounge, which I’ll show you another day…!

A break from the norm

2 / 15 / 132 / 15 / 13

So far, I have not ventured very far into the world of patchwork.  All the quilts I have made have been simple pieced squares:

half square triangles:

chevrons

or very easy “made up in my head” type piecing:

Until now!  I had some of this fantastic Heather Ross Itsy Bitsy Spider fabric, that I wanted to combine with some small grey polka dots and tiny yellow polka dots.  I had a little google around and found a quilt block called a disappearing nine patch.  Hm.  sounds intriguing, looks good, and more importantly, looks straightforward!  Gave it a try, and hey presto!

Here’s a little close up so you can see the cute fabric:

Love it!  Now there’s just the little matter of backing, quilting & binding it…

Hooked on hand sewing

2 / 11 / 13

I’ve been finishing a baby quilt for my mum, I did all the quilting by hand. I found it very addictive! It’s so portable and you can watch telly or talk or supervise children while you do it! Win-win. I’ve started a new mini cheater quilt so I can continue the fun. Using a fantastic fabric called “Put a Stamp on it” by Suzy Ultman. It’s so cute, I love the slightly muted palette & the cute imagery.

I use an embroidery hoop to stretch my work before quilting it, I have been enjoying the different views. The light here is terrible for photos at the mo, but you’ll get the idea.
